We recently discovered that Sam knew the parts of the body. He has a really good understanding of our words (in English and Spanish) but we never had any idea that he knew most of what we were talking about. One day I substituted the word 'hand' for the word 'head' in a song and he corrected me by touching his head. We then figured out (by asking him) that he knew all of the major parts of the body just by listening to us. He now loves for us to ask him. It makes him feel like he's communicating with us.
