False Advertising

Yesterday was a day I will NEVER forget. Ryan had a routine outpatient surgery planned. His doctor said it was no big deal. We'd be in and out of the hospital in two hours. FALSE ADVERTISING! We believed him so we schedule my doctor's appointment and the possible delivery of Andy for later in the day. The procedure was in the Carson City Hospital and we had to be there by 7 am and they took him in to the surgery wing by 9am to start the one hour procedure. I left Ryan's side only after they put him under anaesthesia and went to patiently wait in the waiting room. After almost three hours had passed (at this point I was starting to worry), the doctor came out and said that the procedure went fine (They had to insert a camera into his kidneys to look for some possible kidney stones and remove them). Anyway, he came out to tell me that Ryan had had complications due to the anaesthesia and that he would be kept in the hospital for monitoring until they could figure out what went wrong. Then the anesthesiologist came out to tell me that Ryan was doing quite poorly and they couldn't take him off oxygen because he wasn't breathing well on his own. They were perplexed as to what went wrong. They thought he might have had an asthma attack during surgery but Ryan doesn't have asthma. Whatever it was filled his lungs with fluid which was making it hard for him to breathe. Ryan had such an awful reaction that he desperately tried to remove the oxygen mask off his face (unaware that it was helping him breathe). His neck and face are scratched up from the whole ordeal. It was literally the scariest day I've ever lived. They were supposed to keep him overnight but by the time the anaesthesia completely wore off later in the day, he was feeling better and able to breathe on his own. We were sent home at the end of the day. Needless to say, he's still in a lot of pain. The procedure was more painful than they had originally told him so now he's on very strong drugs and in pain constantly. They said he should be feeling better in a few days. Oh, and by the way, it turns out there were no stones in his kidneys, just a couple of areas of calcification.
Because of all of this, I missed my doctor's appointment. I called to tell him what had happened and he preferred that I nurse Ryan back to health before we bring Andy into the world. "You'll need your husband to be strong and by your side" he said. So we rescheduled my appointment and possible delivery for this Friday. We will keep you all informed.
Thank you for all of those that offered prayers and support yesterday. We could not get through any of this without the prayers of our dear family and friends. We love you all.

Here's Sam hugging and kissing his daddy before surgery. He was very sad to see his dad hooked up to all those machines. Poor little guy had a hard day.
